A Museum in the City

Spectacles/événements

Ever since it opened in June 2013, the building designed by Rudy Ricciotti has been one of the symbols of the new face of Marseille and the urban transformation underway in the districts of the old port.

For the National Architecture Days, Mucem offers a journey through time at the heart of this ever-moving city: an exhibition bringing together images from the archives and great names of photography will focus on the spectacular transformation of the Marseille seafront since 1995 and the creation of the Euroméditerranée quarter. A large-scale model of this part of town, never previously exhibited, will be on show at Fort Saint-Jean.

These two days will be an opportunity to begin to reflect on this city being transformed before our eyes, alongside international experts in architecture and town planning. How can the cities of the Mediterranean adapt to climate change? How can we design public spaces that are welcoming and democratic? How can we reconcile ‘official’ heritage and ‘street’ culture?

These academic encounters are complemented by an exhibition/game inviting the youngest among us to better understand the architecture of today, so as to be able to dream up the city of tomorrow.
