This book reintroduces the photrapher Elly Sougioultzoglou-Seraidari (1899-1998), known as Nelly’s, within the context of the three cities where she lived and shaped her photographic gaze: Dresden – Athens – New York. This grouping of her work, the result of years of research at the Benaki Museum, guardian of the artist's oeuvre, conveys the broad range of themes that engaged her lens over her forty-five-year career as a photographer. Familiar images, published many times over in the past, are complemented by the hitherto-unseen ones, showcasing her pioneering gaze, the various aesthetic trends she adopted and the numerous techniques she experimented with, in black & white and colour photography alike. Elly Sougioultzoglou-Seraidari bequeathed Greek photography with a large and diverse body of work which comhineg boldness, a keen eye for detail, technical mastery, photographic astutimess, and aesthetic certainty in perfect proportion.
