Esso, a faithful patron of the Mucem, has supported the museum since 2013 in fostering the accessibility of its cultural programmes for people with disabilities.
In 2013, the company financed sign language interpreting for deaf and hearing impaired children during two shows. In 2014, it enabled the production of videos introducing temporary exhibitions for people with disabilities, for whom the presentation texts might not be comprehensible.
This year, Esso is financing the production of a video explaining how to use the multimedia guide which gives people with hearing impairments a tour of the permanent exhibition in the Mediterranean Gallery in FSL.
Esso also wanted to enrich its patronage with an educational component and so decided to sponsor a project conducted in partnership with the Aix-Marseille Academy: Voices of the Mucem. Over the 2015—2016 school year, this tour will offer students from partner schools the chance to discover music of the world, based on a Mediterranean vocal repertoire and on the Mucem’s collections.
